Worried?

Everything we need for a fulfilling life is hidden in the Bible. The word of God is powerful enough to bring all His promises to us to pass. When we believe what scripture says, we can soar.

Isaiah 55:11says, “I send it (the Word) out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”

The parable of the sower explains how the Word works. Jesus told the story of a farmer sowing seed in different types of soil. The seed represents the word of God and the soil represents our hearts.

Sowing the Seed

When we hear a Bible verse that speaks straight into our situation, that is the seed being planted in our hearts. So how do we make sure the word grows and brings the promise to pass? We need to make sure our hearts are good ground – free from clutter and worry:

“Some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop.” (Mark 4:7) Jesus explained what the thorns represented: “Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of this world… entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.” (Mark 4:18-19)

Strangling Scripture

Worry literally chokes the life out of God’s word in our hearts. It steals our attention and robs us of our faith. It doesn’t matter what we call it: angst, concern, anxiety, churn, it’s all the same.

Proverbs 12:25 says, “Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down…” When we are worried, it can affect our whole outlook on life. It just takes one concern to spin out of control and it feels like everything is too much.

So what do we do about it? The Bible tells us to cast our cares upon Him. The first problem is that we often don’t even recognise that we are worried. The second problem is that if we do realise we are anxious and try to give it to God, we may do it all wrong.

The Root

What do I mean? Recently, I realised that I was worried about a speaking engagement in my diary. It was buzzing about in the back of my mind and every time I thought about it, I felt bothered. But I didn’t know why I was concerned.

It was an important conference, but it was not as though I thought it would all go horribly wrong. So I asked the Lord, “If all is well, then why am I feeling like this?”

Getting Free

God took me straight to the root. I was worried that I would fail God. That it would be good but not great. That I would not be anointed enough. Once I understood why I was worried, I could go to God and cast all my cares upon the Lord.

I poured out my heart before Him by telling Him what was bothering me. Then I gave it all to Him and told Him I trusted Him. I left my secret place feeling refreshed and excited.

One of the ways we can tell if we are worried is that life will feel too full, we will be stressed and bothered. Sometimes we misinterpret what’s going on and put our inner pressure down to busyness. But when you identify what’s really causing concern, you can cast it all upon the Lord.

It’s our hearts that determine the course of our lives. If you want to be free to fulfil your purpose, come along to Healed for Life. God will shine His light into your heart and heal hidden hurts that you did not even realise were holding you back.
