Insecurity drives people. In fact, after destiny, it can be one of the greatest motivations. Maybe you were put down by a parent or humiliated by teachers. But you know you are capable so the need to prove yourself pushes you to go the extra mile.
THE FIX
We develop different habits to satisfy our need for recognition or reassurance. You know when you’re starting to feel inadequate and so you do something or prime someone to give you your ‘hit’ for the day.
The call from within is, “Recognize my talent, admire my success or show me respect.” After someone has told you that you are doing good, all is well. That is, until the need builds again and you seek the fix of applause or reassurance once more.
But there are problems with these patterns of behavior. We can find ourselves relying on the approval of others rather than the assurance of God.
INSECURITY IN LEADERSHIP
Church leaders are far from immune. We can become reliant on the support of our people, or find it hard to make decisions that might upset the congregation.
After some leaders left our church, insecurity tried to knock at my door again. I felt uncomfortable if anyone asked to speak to me, especially if they wanted to raise a concern.
We have always encouraged feedback from our church family. It’s a great way to find out what we are doing well and what we could do differently to meet people’s needs. But in this season, I was not handling suggestions well. I went to God in prayer.
ROCK SOLID
The Lord reminded me that it is His job, not mine, to build His church. He took me back to Jesus. One day the Lord was teaching a crowd of His followers and got into some difficult doctrinal matters: “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you…”
Well, His ‘church’ members were not impressed: “From that time, many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.” John 6:66. They left. All except the twelve. And what did Jesus do? Did He panic, rushing around pleading with the few remaining followers to stay?
No. Jesus was secure. The size of His congregation did not affect His self-esteem. It did not alter the value He placed on His ministry or His significance in the kingdom. He was at perfect peace.
BACK TO BASICS
The example of Jesus pierced my heart. I wept in God’s presence and told Him, “I don’t mind who leaves or who stays! This is Your church and it’s Your job to build it. I seek Your approval alone. I don’t mind what anybody else thinks.”
If you have been rocked by the actions of the people around you, go back to God. Ask Him to heal your heart while you deliberately move your attention back to Him. Becoming secure is a journey, but it is so very liberating.

La inseguridad dirige personas. Es más después del destino, puede ser uno de los mayores motivadores, quizá fuiste degradado por tus padres y humillado por tus maestros. Pero sabes que eres capaz así que la necesidad de probar tu valía te empuja a correr la milla extra.
LA DOSIS
Desarrollamos hábitos y estilos para satisfacer la necesidad de reconocimiento o seguridad. Tu sabes cuando te empiezas a sentir inadecuado así que haces algo, preparas a alguien para que te de tu dosis de afirmación diaria.
El grito interior es, “reconoce mi talento, admira mi éxito o muéstrame respeto.” Cuando alguien te dice, lo estás haciendo bien, entonces todo está bien. Pero esto es, hasta que el ansia se vuelve a levantar y buscas la droga del aplauso o la alabanza que da seguridad una ves más.
Hay un problema con este patrón de comportamiento. Nos podemos encontrar dependiendo de la aprobación de otros más que de la seguridad que Dios da.
INSEGURIDAD EN EL LIDERAZGO
Los líderes de iglesia no están inmune a esto. Nos podemos hacer dependientes del apoyo de nuestra gente, o encontrar difícil tomar decisiones que pueden molestar a la congregación.
Después que un grupo de líderes se fue de nuestra congregación, la inseguridad trató de tocar la puerta de mi corazón otra vez. Me sentía incómoda si tenía que hablar con alguien, especialmente si tenía que hablar de una problema.
Siempre hemos animado la retroalimentación en nuestra familia de la Iglesia. Es una manera efectiva de conocer como hacer cambios para proveer solución a necesidades. Pero en esta estación, yo no estaba tomando las sugerencias bien. Así que fue a Dios en oración.
ROCA SÓLIDA
El me recordó que es su trabajo construir su iglesia, no el mío. Me llevo de regreso a Jesús. Un día el estaba enseñando a los discípulos y la multitud unos temas doctrinales fuertes: “ si no comes la carne del hijo de Dios y tomas su sangre, no tendrás vida en ti…”
Bueno, los miembros de su “iglesia” no estaba impresionados: “Desde entonces muchos de sus discípulos volvieron atrás, y ya no andaban con él.”S. Juan
No, Jesús estaba seguro de su liderazgo. El tamaño de su congregación no afectaba a su autoestima. No alteró el valor dado a su ministerio o su sentido de importancia en el reino. El estaba seguro.
DE REGRESO A LO BÁSICO
El ejemplo de Jesús marcó mi corazón. Llore en la presencia del Señor y le dije, “no me importa quien se va o se queda! Esta es tu iglesia y es tu asignación levantarla, no la mía. Busco tu aprobación solamente. No me importa lo que otros puedas pensar.”
Si has sido movido por las acciones de las personas alrededor tuyo, regresa a Dios. Pídele que sane tu corazón y a propósito mueve la atención de regreso a El. Empieza el caminar en seguridad.
Necesitamos al Espíritu Santo que nos revele nuestras muletas y causas ocultas de nuestra inseguridad. El revela y después sana. Si disfrutaste este blog, presiona el corazón al principio.
