King David started his working life as a shepherd. He was very good at his job and approached his work with extraordinary diligence. In fact, on at least two occasions, he risked his life for the sake of a sheep.
JUST FOR ONE ANIMAL
David said, “I’ve been a shepherd, tending sheep for my father. Whenever a lion or bear came and took a lamb from the flock, I’d go after it, knock it down, and rescue the lamb. If it turned on me, I’d grab it by the throat, wring its neck, and kill it.” 1 Sam 17:34-35 (MSG)
He didn’t think, “Well, it’s just one little lamb, dad won’t miss it.” David risked everything and defended his sheep with all his strength. He would not allow anyone or anything to hurt or harm any one of those defenceless creatures.
So when David declared in Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my shepherd”, he had a clear picture of what God is like. He was saying, “There are no lengths that my Lord won’t go to protect me. I am safe in His hands. He has my back.”
HOW FAR WILL GOD GO?
I don’t know what you’re facing but I do know that God’s got you in the palm of His hand. If David, a mere man, would go to such lengths for stupid sheep, how far will God go to look after you?
Most of us have a romantic view of the role of shepherds. But David knew that a shepherd worked tirelessly, night and day, through soaring heat and freezing nights, to protect the flock.
What are you contending with right now? What “lions” or “bears” are threatening your well-being? Even if it feels as though you’re finished, the Lord is your shepherd. He has this. He has not forgotten you. He will never fail you.
The Lord is your shepherd, so He is your protector, but it doesn’t stop there. He is your safe place. He is your helper. He is your problem solver and your wonderful Counselor. He is your friend, your guide, your mentor, your defender.
WHO DO YOU NEED HIM TO BE?
Jesus asked Peter a powerful question in Matt 16:15, He said, “…but who do you say that I am?” Right now, know that God has the answer to every problem you are facing. David called the Lord his shepherd because he needed protection.
Take a moment to pray right now, imagine Jesus asking you the same question, “Who do you say that I am?” If you need a friend, that’s who He is. if you need a Helper, He is there. Whatever the issue, He is the answer.

Cuando hemos escuchado un verso miles de veces, podemos perder el sentido de lo que realmente significa. Puede sonar poético, pero tiene más relevancia de lo que crees. Permíteme y te explico lo que significa…
David empezó a trabajar junto a su familia como un campesino. Su especialidad era con las ovejas. Nosotros sabemos que él era muy bueno en su trabajo y su manera de hacerlo con diligencia era extraordinaria. Es más, en más de dos ocasiones, el arriesgó su vida por la seguridad de sus ovejas. Esto me parece que es pertenencia extrema!
Solo Un animal
En 1 Samuel 17:34-35 (versión message) Dijo, “he sido pastor de ovejas atendiendo las ovejas de mi padre. Cuando un león o un oso llegaban a tomar a mi cordero de la manada, yo salía y lo perseguía lo tumbaba y rescataba a mi cordero. Eso me emocionaba, yo la tomaba por el cuello y lo estrangulaba hasta matarlo.”
No pensó, “bueno, es sólo un corderito, mi papá no lo va a extrañar.“ No, él se arriesgaba todo para defender sus ovejas con toda su fuerza. Él no iba a permitir que nada ni nadie lo lastimara inclusive cuando estas criaturas eran sin defensa.
Cuándo David declara en el salmo 23:1 , “El Señor es mi pastor“, el tenía una foto clara de cómo es Dios. El estaba diciendo, “no hay medidas extensas que el Señor no vaya tomar para protegerme. Yo estoy seguro. Él es mi retaguardia .“
Que tan lejos Él puede ir?
No se que puedes estar enfrentando en este momento, pero yo sí sé que el Dios todopoderoso te tiene en sus manos. Si David, era sólo un hombre, y pudo ir a tales medidas para cuidar de una ovejita, qué tan lejos puede llegar Dios para cuidar de ti?
Tenemos una percepción romántica del rol de un pastor. Pero David sabía que como pastor, su trabajo no tenía límites, día y noche, a través de el calor y las noches frías, tenía que proteger su rebaño.
Que estás batallando ahora mismo? Será que “ leones“ o “osos“están amedrentando tu buen estado? E inclusive, te sientes que estás en las garras del peligro, el Señor es tu pastor. Él lo sostiene todo. Él no se ha olvidado de ti. El nunca te va abandonar. El nunca te va a defraudar.
El es tu pastor, lo que significa que El es tu protector, y significa que El no va a detenerse ahí. Él es tu lugar seguro. Él es tu ayudador. Él es quien resolverá tus problemas porque él es el consejero maravilloso. Él es tu amigo, tu guía, tu mentor, tu defensor. Nadie puede creer en ti en la manera que El lo hace.
