One day Jesus asked His disciples who the people were saying He was. “Well,” they replied, “Some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” Jesus then asked his followers, “But who do you say that I am?”
I was reading this recently and felt God ask you and me the same question. “Who do you say that He is?” What am I taking about? Let me explain…
Mark 11:23 says that when we believe, we will have what we say. Romans 10:10 explains that with our hearts we believe but with our mouth we confess. Through the combination of believing and saying, we receive His promises.
He Is Your Answer
Jesus introduced Himself to us using seven powerful phrases in the book of John. Each one of these statements reveals something about who God wants to be in our lives. He said:
- I am the Bread of Life
- I am the Light of the World
- I am the Door
- I am the Good Shepherd
- I am the Resurrection and the Life
- I am the Way, the Truth and the Life
- I am the Vine
I will pick a couple of these and explain a bit about what they mean…
Do You Need An Open Door?
So many times, we are desperately praying for doors to open in our lives. It might be that you need a place at college or a new job. Perhaps, you have been believing for a promotion or for ministry opportunities. We pray for God to open the door that no man can shut.
However, Jesus goes further than that. He is saying to you, I AM the door that will lead you to your promised land. As you seek Me and spend time with Me, I AM the gate to your breakthrough.
How Will It Happen?
Let’s look at another of these statements. Have you ever been certain that God is able to answer your prayers but utterly confounded about how it will happen? When you look at your circumstances, it seems hopeless.
Perhaps you have a health issue that can only be resolved by a miracle. Maybe you need a breakthrough in finances, family or ministry and although you know God is able, you just can’t see how it will happen?
Jesus says, I AM the Way. It’s not just that He has the answer, He is also the way. As you fix your eyes on Jesus, and look to His power and ability, He will make the way where there was no way.
He Makes The Way
You probably know the story of Joseph. God had an awesome plan for this young man but circumstances looked bleak. Joseph was locked up in a foreign prison for a crime he didn’t commit. How could his promises of promotion ever come to pass?
Yet unbeknown to him, Joseph’s whole life was leading him to his breakthrough. Slave traders were Joseph’s transport to the land where he would be a leader. A crooked woman was his ticket to the jail from which he would be promoted.
An imprisoned butler was the mouthpiece that would tell the authorities of his gifts. And troubling dreams were the perfectly prepared problem that would prove Joseph’s worth.
When it looks like there is no way, Jesus IS the way. He is already working behind the scenes on your behalf to bring your promise to pass. So let me finish as I started and allow the Lord to ask you: “Who do you say that I AM?” Declare with faith in your heart who Jesus is to you.

Estuve leyendo esto recientemente y sentí que Dios nos hacía a usted y a mí la misma pregunta. “¿Quién dice usted que es Él?” ¿De qué estoy hablando? Permítame explicar…
Marcos 11:23 dice que cuando creemos, lo que decimos tendremos. Romanos 10:10 explica que con el corazón creemos pero con la boca confesamos. Mediante la combinación de creer y decir, recibimos Sus promesas.
ÉL Es Su Respuesta
Jesús se presentó ante nosotros usando siete frases poderosas en el libro de Juan. Cada una de estas declaraciones revela algo acerca de quién quiere Dios ser en nuestras vidas. Él dijo:
- Yo soy el Pan de Vida.
- Soy la luz del mundo.
- Yo soy la Puerta.
- Soy el buen pastor.
- Yo soy la resurrección y la vida.
- Yo soy el camino, la verdad, y la Vida.
- Yo soy la Vid.
Elegiré un par de estos y explicaré un poco lo que significan…
¿Necesita Usted Una Puerta Abierta?
Muchas veces oramos desesperadamente para que se abran puertas en nuestras vidas. Puede ser que usted necesite una plaza en la universidad o un nuevo trabajo. Quizás haya estado creyendo en un ascenso o en oportunidades ministeriales. Oramos para que Dios abra la puerta que ningún hombre puede cerrar.
Sin embargo, Jesús va más allá. Él le está diciendo: YO SOY la puerta que te conducirá a tu tierra prometida. Mientras me busques y pases tiempo Conmigo, YO SOY la puerta a tu avance.
¿Cómo Sucederá?
Veamos otra de estas declaraciones. ¿Alguna vez ha estado seguro de que Dios es capaz de responder sus oraciones pero has estado completamente confundido acerca de cómo sucederá? Cuando mira sus circunstancias, le parece que no hay esperanza.
Quizás tenga un problema de salud que sólo pueda resolverse mediante un milagro. ¿Tal vez necesita un gran avance en las finanzas, la familia o el ministerio y aunque sabe que Dios es capaz, simplemente no puede ver cómo sucederá?
Jesús dice: YO SOY el Camino. No es sólo que Él tiene la respuesta, sino que también es el camino. Al fijar sus ojos en Jesús y mirar Su poder y habilidad, Él abrirá el camino donde no había camino.
Él Hace el Camino
Probablemente conozca la historia de José. Dios tenía un plan maravilloso para este joven, pero las circunstancias parecían sombrías. José fue encerrado en una prisión extranjera por un crimen que no cometió. ¿Cómo podrían cumplirse sus promesas de ascenso?
Sin embargo, sin que él lo supiera, toda la vida de José lo estaba llevando a su gran avance. Los traficantes de esclavos fueron el transporte de José a la tierra donde sería un líder. Una mujer corrupta fue su billete a la cárcel de la que sería ascendido.
Un mayordomo encarcelado era el portavoz que informaría a las autoridades de sus dones. Y los sueños inquietantes fueron el problema perfectamente preparado que demostraría el valor de José.
Cuando parece que no hay camino, Jesús ES el camino. Él ya está trabajando detrás de escena en Su nombre para hacer realidad su promesa. Así que déjeme terminar como comencé y permitir que el Señor le pregunte: “¿Quién dices que SOY?” Declare con fe en su corazón quién es Jesús para usted.
